Chellie this is so beautiful! Art has so much power to bring us together and I am inspired by this collection of different musical and art styles. My husband and I also have wildly diverse tastes and I hope our daughter remembers our home in this way in the future. Movie scores, punk rock, rock and roll, opera, broadway, all of it has a place here. I love that we're raising her in a place as magical as New York City where you can go to punk shows in dive bars one day but yesterday we went to storytime at Lincoln Center where she learned to flamenco dance. One day I know her dad and grandmother will take her to the opera (their special thing). Thank you so much for sharing this bittersweet nostalgia, now I have to go dig out our record player and immediately find a copy of The Wizard of Oz, we just watched it recently so I know my daughter will be excited.
Margaret, your daughter is so lucky to be growing up in NY. It is where I grew up as a child and where my fondest memories were made. The experiences you and your husband offer are seeds planted in her heart, they may not all sprout at once, one day, you will see the blossoms that will grow from all of what you have planted. I miss NYC…when I come that way, we will have to find time for a meal.
That would be lovely! Yes, please let me know when you're passing through! and thank you for that reassurance. I grew up in South Carolina and I felt so limited there, I want her to feel the opposite, like everything she could possibly want to explore or do is right here for her.
Okay, Chell. First, a great piece. Love the thing about Sol.
Now, fasten your seat belt. See that KISS LP?
Get this. It's a BOOTLEG. It's not a legit album. See how it says DECCA records in the upper right-hand corner of the album cover? They never recorded on Decca. They only recorded on Casablanca Records. Apparently, bootleggers used to slap on other big record label names onto album covers. So, it's not a first pressing. Apparently, this stuff happened all the time back then. Just a fun tidbit. - Seth ✦
